Highlights: Businesses for Social Responsibility

Redwoods has recently become a member of Businesses for Social Responsibility (www.bsr.org): an organization that helps companies of all sizes and sectors achieve success in ways that demonstrate respect for ethical values, people, communities, and the environment.

Heifer International

Heifer International is an organization that strives to end world hunger. Their strategy is to provide animals to needy families and teach them how to become more self-sustainable. Once a family has been given a selected animal they must promise to share their offspring and knowledge with other needy families in their village. The Redwoods Connection

Redwoods is involved in Heifer’s giving program called World Ark. Under this program, Heifer will take two of each animal and give them to needy families all over the world, so that the offspring and families sharing their knowledge will eventually end world hunger. In 2005, we raised internally over $3500 to help this dream come alive for hundreds of impoverished families. We will continue to offer our support to Heifer on an annual basis.

Unitus

Unitus is a foundation that is committed to helping the poor. In order to erase world poverty, Unitus helps microfinance institutions reach millions of people they otherwise wouldn’t help. Their strategy is to accelerate growth by making investments in their MFI partner’s capital and capacity, which in turn, helps Unitus unleash the power of microcredit to impact more people’s lives. Microcredit loans offer economic possibilities. Millions of self-employed poor have used $50 to $150 loans to work their way out of poverty.
