Youth serving organizations and local communities are using Darkness to Light’s Stewards of Children training to educate adults across the country. Stewards is the only nationally distributed child sexual abuse prevention training with evidence that it changes child protective behaviors long term. It has been completed by over 1.3 million adults worldwide and is available online and in Spanish.
YMCAs serve over 10,000 US communities and use the strength of their brand and community relationships to deliver the training to more people than ever before. YMCAs bring local partners and community leaders together to form child protection networks that will spread Stewards of Children to adults all across each community.
Our Foundation introduced the YMCAs and Darkness to Light. Since then, we have provided backbone staffing and strategic support to help scale the effort. The Redwoods Group Foundation also manages funding to help the effort continue to grow.
The Redwoods Group is also proud to be a member of The National Coalition to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation.
Prioritizing child sexual abuse prevention is critical for any youth-serving organization. This new eLearning module provides a framework and questions to consider when developing policies to prevent child sexual abuse. The module draws on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Preventing Child Sexual Abuse Within Youth-serving Organizations: Getting Started on Policies and Procedures, and contains sample tools and resources from national youth-serving organizations. Access the eLearning module here: eLearning module.
